Formed as an independent department in 1985, it is concerned with the all-round development of children and women. Keeping in view the diversified scope of the department, since 2008, 2 directorates were created under it as follows, from child development, women empowerment, nutrition, cases of violence against children and women and coordination programs conducted with other related departments: -
1. Directorate of Integrated Child Development Services
2. Directorate of Women's Empowerment
A vibrant development phase has been reflected under the able guidance of the Honorable Chief Minister, in which special emphasis has been laid on the development of women and children through welfare schemes and nutrition programs.
The Department of Women and Child Development has ensured the welfare of women, children and adolescent girls. Their health, nutrition, protection, pre-primary education and development are being improved through various schemes.
To ensure its resolution, the Department of Women and Child Development has enacted National Food Security Act, 2006, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, Rajasthan Witch Harassment Act, 2015, Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace and Rajasthan Various social legislations like Group Marriage Regulation and Grants Rules, 2009 have been implemented.
Women and various members of the society are being made aware of the above legislations by the department so that they can get the real benefit of the provisions of the said legislations.
